Gardens, Wildflowers, & the California Coast
 

Gardens, Wildflowers, & the California Coast

During mid-April, the wildflowers bloom along the Lost Hills and Carrizo Plains, and the beautiful gardens are in full bloom. Elephant seals and calves rest along the shore in great numbers before heading out to sea and relax in full view. This will be a photo-intensive workshop concentrating on fieldwork. Beginning along the California coast we値l photograph some of the beaches, elephant seals, and gardens including the famous Hearst Castle. Moving inland we値l concentrate on the landscape filled with colorful wildflowers, lone oaks, and an old mission. Although we will be concentrating on landscape images, there could be wildlife nearby to photograph. Cost includes lodging (rates based on double occupancy), transportation, and two meals per day. In early July, the prairie comes alive around the Black Hills of South Dakota. Deer, bighorn, and bison roam, young prairie dog frolic near their dens, and wildflowers abound. Join David Cobb and Christian Heeb for this photo-intensive workshop concentrating on fieldwork. Beginning in the Badlands we値l photograph some of its spectacularly harsh scenery. Moving to the Black Hills we値l concentrate on photographing a number of Native Americans in a natural setting, along with the wildlife of Custer State Park, and many of the scenic vistas of the Black Hills. Finally ending with a beautiful canyon setting and photographing a number of its waterfalls. We will concentrate on landscape, wildlife, and model shoots for our images. Cost includes lodging (rates based on double occupancy), transportation and fees within the parks, modeling fees, and two meals per day. During late September, the snow begins to dust the steep mountains of Glacier National Park, and most of the tourists have gone home. Deer and elk can still be spotted, and bear, moose, bighorn, and mountain goat still roam the park in full view. Beginning on the western side of the park we値l photograph some of the spectacular scenery along the Continental Divide. Moving to the eastern half, we値l concentrate on the landscape filled with colorful aspen, hike to spectacular waterfalls and lands dotted with beautiful lakes. For some of the areas we will photograph, plan on occasional light hiking up to 2 miles each way. This is not part of the "Best of the Northwest" workshops, but is offered by the Pacific Northwest Art School at www.pacificnorthwestartschool.org.

This is an area made up of incredible waterfalls, dramatic cliffs, and a couple of dominant mountains. Throw in fall color and you have a photographer痴 paradise. Based in the quaint town of Hood River, Oregon, we値l photograph Columbia River Gorge waterfalls, sunrise at Mount Adams, sunset at Mount Hood, and a few of the abandoned homesteads and schoolhouses in the eastern gorge wheat fields. We will also practice macro, blur images, work with Lensbaby, and other creative camera techniques. For some of the areas we will photograph, plan on occasional light hiking up to 2 miles each way.
